All About Sponsorship

Sponsors can make a big impact in a child's life.

You can be part of the solution! By choosing to sponsor a child, you become a vital link in the development and future potential of a precious child.

The sponsorship program consists of three aspects:

1. Monthly Support

Kidstown seeks one sponsor for each child, asking for a $35 contribution per month. Sponsorship funds help provide food, clothing, shelter, medical attention, and education for all the children in the orphanage.

Sponsorship funds also help with the upkeep and operation of the orphanage, for in-country administrative fees, and for compensation of Kidstown's in-country staff.

2. Prayers

Many of the children in the orphanages come with profound scars from early childhood experiences in their homes or in state-run orphanages. For many children it remains difficult to develop meaningful relationships because of past difficulties. Learning to trust others and allowing themselves to love individuals again is very difficult. Lifting these children up in prayer strengthens their relationship with God and with you.

3. Encouragement

Personal communication, through the use of letters, notes, cards and photos will show the child that you have a personal interest in his or her life. This is very important in building the child's self confidence and self-worth. Special occasion acknowledgments (birthdays, graduation, profession of faith, etc.) promote the individuality of the child that can be sometimes lost living in a group home.

Recommendations for corresponding with your sponsored child:

  • We suggest you write about yourself, hobbies, activities, family, sports, school, pets, and work.
  • We also suggest that you avoid mentioning personal addresses, the possibility of a child coming to the US, how much money you make, your material possessions, the possibility of you visiting your child, and any phone numbers.
  • Keep things simple. Write about things your child will understand.
  • Encourage your child in his or her schooling, spiritual life, and personal growth.
  • To assist our translators, please limit your letters to one typewritten page.
  • Please allow up to two months for your child to receive your letter or gift. This is a result of translation time and postal service.
  • In the case of a group sponsorship, we ask that one person be assigned to correspond with the child. Correspondence from other members of the group is possible through the assigned person. This will help the child understand the relationship of other members by communicating through one person.
  • Sponsors may also send small gifts to their child but we ask that the gifts fit into a 9x12 or smaller envelope, and that the weight of the package does not exceed 1 pound. In an effort to streamline the work for our Romanian administrators and to reduce the risk of theft or loss, we request that all packages be sent to Kidstown International and not directly to your child. We will forward your gift on to your child. Some gift ideas are T-shirts, ball caps, balloons, stickers, bookmarks, postcards, pictures and letters.

"Dear Kidstown,

It is amazing to me how God had prepared my heart before the journey to Romania. When God makes a way it is real and powerful, it gives meaning, and its results last. I have learned that when we connect to God and follow his ways, a whole new world can open up. That's exactly what happened for Sonja and I as we opened our hearts to Kidstown International and said "yes" to going to Romania.

What a wonderful opportunity to visit the orphanages and see firsthand how God is blessing the children because of the efforts of so many. We feel privileged to have gone to visit the different homes. It is evident that those who run the orphanages are proud to be doing a good job. The children are happy and taken care of well.

It was especially fun to see the children we sponsor. To see Robert (sponsored child) in person makes me feel a part of his life and makes me realize that he is like a son. God has orchestrated our part in his life and I am grateful. I would encourage anyone supporting a child to take a trip to Romania to visit. I hope we will always be a part of this special ministry."
